The composition is great; I like that the fish is off-center, which makes for an interesting picture overall. I think there is a bit too much negative space at the bottom there; you might consider cropping it a smidge for balance.
Great clarity and focus here! You have a real knack for photography. I'd love to see some work in color sometime
Critique
The quality of this picture is quite pleasing to the eye. The picture is sharp and gives us the detail of each individual scale. You’ve managed to do a fantastic job at capturing the beauty of this fish and that really comes from the sharpness of each individual scale.
The background is great as it is interesting to look at but doesn’t at all take away the attention towards the fish. Because this is black and white the saturation and lighting of the background is even more important to get right and that’s exactly what you’ve done. The tone of the background just nicely complements the fishs own colour as well as contrasting with the black and brighter parts of the fish. It’s the pure black on the fish and the brighter parts where the scales are shining that bring a lot of the attention to the fish and adds a lot of character and depth to the image.
I also like the shine of light on the eye of the fish. It’s the little details such as that eye shine which makes the picture so interesting to look at because it’s such a simple picture to begin with.
Good job in taking this picture, I wouldn’t change anything about it because it works perfectly just the way it is. The faint watermark is well done, it’s placed where it won’t take the attention away from the fish, but also not be intrusive.
Hope this critique helps
First the people are accustomed to observe photographs of colorful fish and see this picture leaves impacted. Good idea of black and white.
The position of the fish is very striking and generates a good composition.
overall is a good deviation. keep exploring and working!
P.S: sorry if my English is not so good
I just completely adore this photo XD I really do. I love how you can see almost every scale on this beautiful little fish, and while it would be interesting to see its colours, I think you made a good choice with the black and white, because it almost makes it look as though it's made of glass.
I also really like the composition of the whole shot, the way the fish isn't right in the centre. I think it could have worked well in the lower right corner too, but I do like it where it is ^^
In terms of improvement the only thing I can mention is the fact that there seems to be a bit of noise around the fish, which is a little distracting once you've noticed it, especially when the rest of the background is lovely and smooth. But otherwise the focus is great, the subject is just stunning, and the overall effect is wonderful. Good job!
There are so many thing I like about this photo.First of all, the fact that the photo is in black and white. When we imagine fish, we think about the myriad of colours they have but by representing this fish in black and white is different and different in a nice sort of way. The black stripes on the fish add a sort of gravity to the photo. It is somewhere the viewer can focus its attention since the colour of the fish is very similar to the background brighter thought it may be.The photo is really clear and the focus good. Technically this is a very sound photo.Only one thing that I would like to add though is that it would have been better had the fish been in the middle of the of the photo. The reason being a lot of space on the bottom right corner of the photo is wasted and utilization of space is very important. My humble suggestion would be to crop the photo so that you can remove the extra space which is serving no purpose.Overall, this is a nice photo! Keep up the good work
I'd like to start by saying that I think you made a great choice with the black and white aspect of this. I'm a total sucker for black and white pictures.
Overall I really like this piece. It looks like a zoo aquarium's postcard. It's quite exquisite actually. Keep up the beautiful photography!
